Act of Memory

We do not remember every single moment of our life and we cannot recall memories perfectly. Details blur over time and it turns out, if we do not treasure that memory, it becomes forgotten. Sometimes, it takes a deliberate act of will to memorise a moment, to recognise its importance, and to keep it in our minds forever. This is not a one time thing, but a habitual choice to remember the things that are significant and sentimental to us. It is like a couple celebrating their anniversary. If they do not make the active decision to store the date where they first met; their first date; the day of their marriage; it all becomes meaningless. For most the act of celebrating an anniversary is to celebrate the original moment itself, remembering that adorable first time you went out together, or that day where you said: "I do."

Never forget those moments, they are the moments where you were the happiest in your life. Forget the mistakes you've made, but never forgets the lessons you learned from them. Remember your parents, your friends, and each day something has impacted your life. No one else will savour it for you, no one else will feel the warmth of each recollection that you relive. Make the decision to memorise these things. Like reciting Bible verses, or studying coursework, if you keep exercising these acts of memory - with or without physical presence, they will be there with you forever.
