Arashiyama

Hanatouro is something held in Arashiyama between the 14th and the 21st of December. It is a light festival when lanterns light up the whole city and even spotlights shine on the mountains. The people of the village hand paint their own lanterns and hang them up too! It was absolutely stunning. The lights in the dark cold night were magical and what better way to witness it by a riverside. We started off in the dark bamboo forest and when it hit 5pm, lights blew up the whole place into a silvery wall of bamboo trees that were so beautiful and unique. Arashiyama was a beautiful place, and hanatouro made it extra special.
